Assistant Lab Manager

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the Lab Manager to ensure the department functions effectively, meeting both scientific and business requirements. The role involves overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving improvements in testing protocols and quality programs. The Assistant Lab Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams and lead projects to enhance laboratory efficiency and performance.

Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities

• Manage the administrative operations of the laboratory and ensure timely execution of all tests
• Review test results and authorize product release in SAP
• Collaborate with the LAB relay and plant QC to maintain Cecalait proficiency and SRM programs
• Oversee the lab training program to ensure thorough knowledge of analytical testing procedures and methods
• Assist with troubleshooting, sample design, testing, and follow-up to resolve issues
• Identify and implement improvement projects under the direction of the Lab Manager
• Work with production and quality teams to reduce product holds and complaints (CPM)
• Manage the Shelf-Life Program, analyzing results and defining necessary actions with the Lab Manager
• Lead investigations with sanitation and production teams for out-of-spec microbiological results
• Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and qualification of all laboratory equipment.

Managerial Responsibilities:

• Manage lab employees, directing and coordinating their efforts to resolve testing-related issues
• Structure staff schedules to meet testing and reporting deadlines.
• Lead laboratory investigations regarding unexpected results.
• Set and monitor staff policies and goals in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Organize department training activities and assist with annual performance evaluations.
• Manage laboratory supplies and coordinate new equipment installations.
• Develop long-term internal relationships to improve laboratory operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biology, chemistry, food science).
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a laboratory or quality assurance role.
• Experience in managing laboratory operations and supervising staff.
• Strong understanding of analytical testing methods and quality management systems.
• Proficient in SAP and laboratory software systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
